Nattokinase has been shown to reduce blood pressure and should be taken with caution by those who are also taking blood thinners or blood pressure lowering medications. Avoid use of nattokinase if you have a history of ischemic stroke, peptic ulcer, or coagulation disorders, as well as before and after surgery.

Star anise may worsen bleeding if taken with blood thinners such as Coumadin and heparin, antiplatelet drugs such as Plavix and aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen. Star anise combined with ginkgo biloba may also worsen bleeding.
